About the Institute
The Institute for North American and European Studies (INAES) was founded on September 14, 2005 at the University of Tehran. The Institute was initially admitting students for M.A. programs, but after the establishment of the Faculty of World Studies (FWS), INEAS turned into a purely research center for country studies, focusing on European and North American countries. Its main function is to enhance research facilities and activities with the cooperation of the academic departments of the FWS and its bright postgraduate students. The existing departments at the FWS which collaborate with INAES include North American Studies, British Studies, French Studies, Russian and East European Studies. INAES has an interdisciplinary approach to the study of North American and European countries and benefits from the presence of 40 adjunct Faculty Members – Iranian and non-Iranian – from a variety of majors such as social sciences, political science, international relations, English, French, Russian and German languages and literatures. In addition, the presence of professors from other fields such as economics and management, technology management and information technology, anthropology and cultural studies has led to the development of a wide scope of interdisciplinary knowledge.
In 2005, the Centre for Ranking and Evaluation in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Iran ranked INAES as the second best research centre within the University of Tehran. Since then, INAES has had the privilege of being the first or second best research center/institute in humanities and social sciences in the country.Furthermore, INAES has conducted more than 20 researches, some of which have been published in prestigious journals. INAES has held over 40 conferences in the past five years; some of these conferences enjoyed the presence of internationally known scholars from around the world.
