About the Institute
The Institute for Economic Research and Development was established in 1960 with the following aims: conducting theoretical and applied researches in new issues of Iranian economy, theoretical economy, and international economy, particularly the countries in the region; furthermore, training specialized human resources equipped with the skills necessary for the labor market and industry to increase productivity and efficiency. The Institute started its activities under the name of the Institute for Economic Researches under the presidency of Dr. Hosein Pirnia, the father of Economics in Iran at the venue of the Faculty of Law and Political-Economic Sciences, University of Tehran. Then, in October 1967, with the detachment of Faculty of Economics from the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, it was transferred to the Faculty of Economics. Enjoying outstanding professors and elite students at Ph.D. levels in the fields of economics, energy economy, economic development and planning, Islamic banking, urban economy and investment, financial economy, money and banking, econometric, social studies, public finance and economy of environment, and with more than half a century of experience in education and research, the Institute for Economic Research and Development has become one of the important research and educational centers in the country. The Institute publishes the prestigious Journal of Economic Researches and Development in both Persian and English. Furthermore, the institute has collaboration on research and education with prominent institutes and research centers around the globe, such as the Islamic Development Bank.
