Leave from The Imperial Hotel and Convention Center to Sukhothai Province
08.15-09.00 |
Visit Wat Pra Sri Rattanamaha That Wat Pra Sri Rattanamaha That is regarded the most important temple in the province. A Royal temple founded in the 14th century is famous for the Phra Buddha Chinnarat Buddha image, considered by many to be the most beautiful Buddha image in Thailand. The Sukhothai style image measuring 375 centimetres tall was molded around 1357. Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat also features a 36 meter tall Ayutthaya style stupa that enshrines Buddha relics and a large standing Buddha image in front of it. |
10.00-11.30 |
Visit Sukhothai Historical Park A UNESCO World Heritage City, Sukhothai houses a vast number of historical sites and temple ruins. As the first capital of Siam, the Sukhothai Kingdom (1238 – 1438) was the cradle of Thai civilization – the birthplace of Thai art, architecture and language. ‘Sukhothai’ means ‘the dawn of happiness’, and the kingdom did enjoy an extended period of peace and prosperity until it was annexed by the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Due to its location (about 427km north of Bangkok and sitting relatively in the middle of nowhere) Sukhothai sees a smaller number of visitors than its more popular counterpart Ayutthaya. Sukhothai’s historical sites, however, are by no means less splendid. Most historically significant temple ruins are housed inside the Sukhothai Historical Park and nearby Si Satchanalai Historical Park. Apart from visiting the historical sites, Sukhothai itself is a quiet rural city where you can still relish the charms of Thailand’s rustic lifestyle. |

12.00-13.00 |
Lunch at Ban Chanchay, a Thai food restaurant in Sukhothai Province
13.00-14.00 |
Leave for Lumtad Ancient Silver
14.00-14.45 |
Visit Lumtad Ancient Silver Sukhothai’s silver jewellery craft is equally as unique. Rather than molded into a pre-desired shape, these jewellery pieces are hand-woven into various designs from tiny strands of silver. The designs are usually modelled after the relief patterns found inside Si Satchanalai.
15.00-15.45 |
Visit Suntree Thai Weaving Center Suntree is hand-woven fabric of Thai Puan Tribe, who moved from Chieng Kwang (Southern of Loung Prabang, Laos) to Sukhothai, Thailand at the time of King Rama III Rattanakosin Dynasty (approx. 1830 A.D.) We made many difference kinds and styles of fabrics for daily use and special occasions. Tin choks are famous fabrics that used a special technique to insert variety color threads to individual pattern. We made the best quality fabrics by using natural material in every step and still keep original and also create new patterns too. Each piece of fabric is and individual art works of the weaver by their heart and soul. |
16.00-16.45 |
Visit Prasert Antique Ceramic art was produced in different parts of present day Thailand. Sukhothai or Sangkhalok (as named by the Chinese) ceramics are the most important subgroup, having been produced in a distinct area and time period (around the timeframe of the Sukhothai kingdom). However, it seems that nowadays all ancient ceramics of that time period are referred to as Sukhothai or Sangkhalok wares, further distinction basically made by archaeologists and professional collectors. The kiln sites of the Sukhothai wares have been explored and are scattered over two main areas; i.e., the Sukhothai kilns outside the northern wall of the ancient city of Sukhothai, and the Si Satchanalai kilns. One particular kiln in Si Satchanalai has been excavated and is exhibited as an open air museum, a few km northwest of the Si Satchanalai archaeologic site.
