A Canadian Postdoctoral Fellow in the UT Faculty of Social Sciences

On April 30th, 2019, Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) Postdoctoral Fellow, Dr. Mary Yoshinari arrived in Iran to begin her academic activities in the Department of Social Planning, Faculty of Social Sciences at University of Tehran.

Since then, Dr. Yoshinari has been working with her Host Supervisor, Professor Ali Asghar Saeidi of the Department of Social Planning. One important outcome of their research collaboration will be the publication of a co-authored article on the role of the Iranian Chambers of Commerce in Iran’s national economy from 1921 to 1951.

Moreover, Dr. Yoshinari has been having mutually beneficial intellectual exchanges with other faculty members, such as the Head of the Department of Social Planning, Professor Ali Shakoori, the Head of the Department of Communication, Professor Hamid Abdollahyan, and Professor Ehsan Shahghasemi in the Department of Communication.

In addition, Dr. Yoshinari recently visited Professor Soheila Torabi Farsani of Islamic Azad University Najafabad in Isfahan to discuss the organization of a panel on Iran’s economic history for the 2020 Association of Iranian Studies (AIS) Conference in Salamanca, Spain.

She also spent time in the local archives. All of these activities aiming at promoting closer academic ties between Iranian and Canadian universities.
