The Acting President of the University of Tehran meets with the Iraqi Minister of Science
On 4 June, 2025, Prof. Mohammad Hossein Omid, the Acting President of University of Tehran , along with Hojjatoleslam Abazari, the Cultural Counselor of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Iraq, met and discussed with Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, the Iraqi Minister of Science.
In this meeting, the University's Vice President for International Affairs, Dr. Aminzadeh, Head of the University's Science and Technology Park, Dr. Ali Asadi, and Dr. Yahya Bouzrinejad, Head of the International Branch of the University of Tehran in Iraq, accompanied the university's Acting President.
In this meeting, Prof. Omid thanked the Iraqi Minister of Science for agreeing to establish a university branch in Baghdad and explained the latest details of the implementation steps for setting up a branch in Iraq.
Prof. Omid announced the University of Tehran's readiness to launch an international branch of the university in Baghdad for the next academic year, and announced that the University of Tehran has put the implementation of the fields needed by Iraq on the agenda in its international branch.
He also announced to the Iraqi side the readiness to establish a branch of the Science and Technology Park of the University of Tehran at the location of the university's international branch.
Having emphasized on many commonalities between Iran and Iraq in the fields of religion, culture, and history, The Iraqi Minister of Science emphasized on the necessity of formation of research , academic and cultural cooperation between Iranian and Iraqi universiteis and esablisment of Science and Technol0gy Park in Irq. He expressed his hope that the presence of the University of Tehran in Iraq could lead to the promotion of talented Iraqi youth.
Stating that Iraqi youth were unable to fully develop their talents due to the policies of the Baathist regime in the past, he emphasized his readiness and readiness of his ministry to support for opening a branch of University of Tehran in Iraq and issued the necessary orders to expedite the process of opening the branch.
At the end of this meeting, the Acting President of the University of Tehran invited the Iraqi Minister of Science to visit the University of Tehran's Science and Technology Park, and, referring to the water challenge in both Iraq and Iran, emphasized the need for scientific research and the provision of solutions by Iranian and Iraqi academics.
The Iraqi Minister of Science, while welcoming this proposal and confirming the need for a scientific study on the issue of the water challenge, called for the formation of a joint working group of professors and experts from the University of Tehran and universities under the supervision of the Iraqi Ministry of Science.

Visit to Baitul-Hikmah, Iraq and Preparation for Deepening and Expanding Cooperation
Prof. Omid, continuing his one-day trip to Iraq, met and discussed with Dr. Qahtan Na’ma Hassan Al-Khafaji, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Baitul-Hikmah, and a group of officials from this scientific complex.
Bait al-Hikmah is the oldest, largest, and most influential research institution in Iraq, operating directly under the supervision of the Prime Minister of Iraq.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Qahtan Neema Hassan Al-Khafaji, while welcoming the Iranian delegation, pointed out the high and long-standing position of the University of Tehran among the world's universities and its leading role in the development of science and technology, the training of prominent scientists and professors, as well as the publication of scientific works and applied research. He referred to this visit as a turning point in bilateral relations.
In response to this welcome, Prof. Mohammad Hossein Omid sincerely appreciated the hospitality of the officials of Bayt al-Hikma. The Acting President of the University of Tehran, emphasizing the historical importance and cultural and scientific position of Bayt al-Hikma in Islamic civilization and the world, praised it as a bridge between the East and the West and the first scientific institution and translation house that has transferred sciences between civilizations.
In this meeting, Prof. Omid announced the University of Tehran's full readiness to expand cooperation with Baitul-Hikmah in the fields of cooperation between professors and researchers, joint holding of scientific events and conferences, exchange of scientific publications and resources, as well as visits by scientific and research delegations between the two institutions.
At the end of the meeting, as a sign of friendship and cultural exchange, a number of newly published books from Baitul-Hikmah and symbolic commemorative gifts from the University of Tehran, which reflect the rich culture and civilization of the two countries, were exchanged between the parties.
Also present at the meeting were Dr. Haider Qassem Al-Tamimi, Secretary General of Bayt Al-Hikmah, Dr. Muhannad Abdul Hassan, member of the Board of Trustees, and Mr. Mozafar Al-Rubai, Director of Public Relations and Media of Bayt Al-Hikmah.

Prof. Mohammad Hossein Omid , Acting President of University of Tehran met with Dr. Mohammad Kazem Al-e Sadegh, Ambassador of I.R. of Iran to Iraq and also Hojatal Islam Abazari, Cultural Attaché of Islamic Republic of Iran to Iraq. During the meeting , they exchanged ideas on the issue of UT branch in Iraq and other academic and cultural programs.
