ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2017 has been released by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy. ShanghaiRanking began to publish Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) by academic subjects since 2009. This release contains rankings of universities in 52 subjects across natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences. In total, more than 4000 universities have been ranked. The bibliometrics data is from Web of Science and InCites database produced by Clarivate Analytics.

According to the newest edition of GRAS, University of Tehran has been  represented 16 times in 16 academic subjects including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Instruments Science & Technology, Computer Science & Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Environmental Science & Engineering, Water Resources, Food Science & Technology, Mining & Mineral Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Management, Veterinary Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, and Chemistry and the best performance of the University of Tehran has been water resources subject with the world rank of 15.
