Celebration of International Day of Sports for Peace and Development in University of Tehran

Location: Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, University of Tehran

With a collaboration of Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Sciences of University of Tehran, National Commission for UNESCO-IRAN, Ministry of Sports and Youth and UNESCO regional office held a conference in the International Day of Sports with the motto of “Sport for Peace and Development” on 19 April, 2017 with the attendance of some ambassadors from different embassies in Tehran, students, athletes, coaches, managers, federation representatives and sport boards.

This event started at 11:00 am with a welcoming introduction by Dr. Reza Rajabi, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Sciences of University of Tehran and Vice-President of the Iranian National UNESCO Committee on Physical Education and Sport. In his speech, Dr. Rajabi pointed to the close cooperation of this faculty with UNESCO in different sport related projects.

Then, Ms. Kuisch-Laroche, the UNESCO Representative in Tehran, highlighted the vital role of sport in society as well as the important role of traditional and local sports.

Dr. Nasiri, Secretary-General of the Iranian National Commission, delivered his speech on the role of sport in emerging peace, culture and social alliance, physical education and sport. In addition, he appreciated the cooperation of Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Sciences of Tehran University and UNESCO.

Those who delivered their speeches in this event were as follows: Mr. Ahmet Gurbanov, Ambassador of Turkmenistan in Tehran; Mr. Jafari, President of the Iranian Federation of Local Games and Traditional Sports; Ms. Ghilani, President of the Iranian Polo Federation; Dr. Limouchi, Director General of Physical Education and Sport in Alzahra University and Dr. Ahmadi, Deputy Minister for Cultural and Educational Affairs, Ministry of Sports and Youth. In addition, the Ambassador of Iraq and the representatives from the embassies of Australia, Germany and Mexico … attended this event.

There were live demonstrations of traditional Turkmenistan sports and traditional performance of the Iranian national team of Zurkhaneh.

After the conference, the participants visited the sports exhibition by the embassy of Turkmenistan.
