Ambassador of Bangladesh Met with President of University of Tehran
Mr. Majibur Rahman Bhuiyan met with Prof. Nili Ahmadabadi, President of University of Tehran on 19 June, 2016.
During the meeting, the ambassador of Bangladesh stated,” We pay a special respect to academicians, since they train the educated man force for our nations. We ourselves are the products of universities and I am very much interested in helping with the promotion of academic ties between the University of Tehran and universities in Bangladesh”.
In response, President Nili Ahmadabadi also welcomed Mr. Ambassador’s remarks and added, “Our strategic plan in UT is to internationalize the program”. We have started many international programs and in addition to the main campus, our Kish Int. Campus has planned to offer many international programs”.
Ambassador of Bangladesh expressed his hope for the future visit of Vice-Chancellor of The University of Dhaka to University of Tehran. He further explained about the higher education system in Bangladesh and referred to the influence of Persian culture and language on Indian sub-continent and also Bangladesh. He referred to the presence of more than 6000 common words between Bengali language and Persian.
He also explained that the idea of International Mother Language Day (IMLD) formally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution establishing 2008 as the International Year of Languages has been taken from Bangladesh. The language of instruction in Bangladesh universities is Bengali, however in courses such as engineering, and medical sciences, courses are also offered in English.
At the end of the meeting both sides expressed their hope for more academic ties between the two countries.
