Lecture by UT Professor of History at Renmin University of China

Based on the invitation of the Institute of Eurasian Studies of the Renmin University of China, Prof. Goodarz Rashtiani, a member of the academic staff of the Department of History of the University of Tehran, gave a speech entitled "Iran and Eurasia, the experience of historical relations" in a virtual meeting. The meeting was held virtually on Monday, December 26, 2022.

At the beginning of this meeting, Prof. Wang Yueji (Deputy of the Eurasian Studies Institute of Renmin University) introduced the Eurasian Studies Center and introduced Dr. Rashtiani. Then Prof. Chu Chinhua (Deputy Dean of the National Academy of Development and Strategy of Renmin University of China, Executive Dean of the Eurasian Research Institute, Professor of the School of International Relations) discussed about the importance of Eurasian studies and the necessity for detailed study to examine this term and referred to the historical role of Iran in the Eurasian region. Afterwards, Dr. Rashtiani gave his speech.

He expressed his opinion about the term Eurasia and emphasized the meaning of Eurasia in his presentation which means Central Eurasia that has become a well-established term in scientific societies in the last few years. Then he presented a brief description of Iran's historical presence in Central Eurasia from the Achaemenid period to the 19th century.

Then he discussed about the position of Russia and Iran in Central Eurasia (Central Asia and the Caucasus). The impressionability of Iranians from the ideas of social democracy in the Caucasus was another issue that was mentioned, the issue that provided the ground for Iran's constitutional revolution in 1906.

After that, he referred to iron wall by the Soviet Union on the 3,000-kilometer borders with Iran, and the discussed about the  social and cultural relations in the 20th century  and at the end, he talked on Iran's constructive role in the resolution of the Tajikistan crisis in 1997 and Iran's neutral position in the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis .

This meeting was held in English with the contribution of 95 professors and students of Renmin University.
