TEHRAN - The University of Tehran and the University of Naples Federico II signed a memorandum of understanding to expand cooperation in the fields of natural resources.

Mohammad-Ali Ebrahimzadeh and Danilo Ercolini represented the Iranian and the Italian sides respectively, IRNA reported on Saturday.

The MOU underlines the need for boosting scientific cooperation in the fields of natural resources, agriculture, and soil science.

Over the past years, Iran has made strides in achieving scientific progress despite sanctions.Based on the agreement, which will be valid for five years, the two sides will implement programs to exchange professors and students, present online joint courses, and carry out joint research projects.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, has addressed the important role the university and scientific elite play in increasing Iran’s national strength.

Over the past years, Iran has made strides in achieving scientific progress despite the fact that the country has been under severe sanctions that impinged on Iran’s scientific interaction with the world.

Moreover, several Iranian prominent scientists were assassinated by the enemies for contributing to Iran’s progress, which has become possible largely because of the knowledge generated by young scientists.

This explains why the Leader described talented youth as one of the most precious assets of Iran.

The Iranian deputy science minister Peyman Salehi said in July that despite U.S. sanctions, the international activities of Iranian scientists have increased year by year.

According to the latest edition of the best global universities ranking released by U. S. News, 52 Iranian institutions were ranked among the best institutions worldwide.

In the previous edition of the ranking, 44 institutions from Iran were among the top institutions in the world.
