UT proposal accepted by University of Copenhagen
Dr. Roohollah Noori’s proposal on “Iran’s Groundwater Quality” was approved in the international call announced by the University of Copenhagen, the first ranked university in Denmark.
In Iran, groundwater depletion and salinization are two national major concerns. Recent reports have ranked Iran among the countries with the highest groundwater depletion, which also led to groundwater quality deterioration. A strong motivation for this project, which is financially supported by the University of Copenhagen, is to shed light on evolution of Iran’s groundwater quality using the analysis of stable isotopes (oxygen 18 and deuterium) sampled in the country’s major aquifers. This project provides unique and valuable information for sustainable management of the Iran’s groundwater resources, which support more than 55% of the national water demands, and more than 80% in the country’s rural communities.
