Prof. Petter Pilesjo the Director of Center for Geographical Information System (GIS Center), Lund University met with Prof. Ghahramani, Vice President for International Affairs, University of Tehran

This meeting was held on 27th of September, 2015. In the meeting, Prof. Mansourian, the Associate Professor of GIS Center (Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystems Science), Prof. Yazdanpanah, Dean of the Faculty of Geography, Prof. Abdolahi, Advisor to the Dean on Int. Affairs, Prof. Tomanian, Faculty Member and Prof. Alavi Panah, Faculty Member of the Faculty of Geography and also Prof. Akhoondzadeh, Director General for International Students, and Abdolmajid Eskandari, Director General for Office of International Relations were present.

Expressing his happiness for being in University of Tehran, Prof. Pilesjo mentioned his long collaboration with University of Tehran academic community via programs such as Erasmus Mundus and his satisfaction with the quality of professors and students’ knowledge. He further added that quality is very important to Lund University and we attach great significance to our high academic standards in our international academic collaboration. There is a high potential for cooperation with University of Tehran and we can work on joint degree programs (dual degrees) with your Faculty of Geography at Master’s level as a pilot project and then extend it other areas as well.

In response, Prof. Ghahramani, Vice President for International Affairs welcomed the ideas and explained similar experiences of University of Tehran concerning the dual degree programs. In the proposed program, after having the approval of the authorities of both countries, students will attend UT through national entrance exam and will be able to spend part of their studies at UT and part of their studies at Lund and both universities will grant their own degrees to the graduate. The students of such programs will start this program by their own budget and should enjoy high quality and language skills as well.

The two sides also agreed to consider spending sabbatical leaves of Ph.D. students in Lund University or University of Tehran on mutual agreement and encouraging further academic collaboration.
