Historical and cultural relations between Poland and Iran have begun centuries ago. In 1474, Amborgio Contarini, the envoy of Venice, delivered a letter of Uzun Hasan to the Polish king Casimir. Almost 550 years have passed since Poland and Iran established mutual diplomatic and trade relations. With the end of World War I in 1918, new conditions emerged in the international system that had profound effects on the international community, including Iran and Poland.

With the establishment of new political systems, two countries signed the Treaty of amicable relationship to expand bilateral relations. In 1925, shortly after the Polish state had been reborn in 1918, the Polish embassy was opened in Tehran, thus marking the new beginning in the relations between the two countries and nations. These relations culminated during the Second World War when thousands of Polish refugees found shelter on Iranian soil (1942).

Today, more than 90 years after this historical event, to discuss the multi facial aspects of the history of Iranian-Polish relationships, the Faculty of Literature and Humanities at University of Tehran and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Tehran held an International webinar entitled “Iranian-Polish Relations between World War I and II” on 14-15th April 2021 via Zoom.

In addition to officials, several Polish and European experts and Iranists such as Ambassador Maciej Fałkowski, Maciej Pisarski, Piotr Kłodkowski, Aleksander Wasilewski, Zaur Qasimov, Stanisław Jaśkowski, Iranian professors and researchers such as GH. Karimi-Doustan, Alireza   Dowlatshahi, Ali Moujani, Elham Malekzadeh, Ali Shahidi, Goodarz Rashtiani, Ali Kalirad, Hamed Kazemzadeh, Ali Mesgar, Abdolmajid Eskandari, and Hasssan Fazeli, will talk at this conference.
