Ambassador of Portugal to Iran visits UT

On 25 July, 2018, Mr. João Côrte-Real, the  Ambassador of Portugal to Iran paid a visit to Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature and met with Prof. Valipour, Dean of the Faculty and other officials.

During the meeting both sides exchanged ideas on the areas of  mutual cooperation between UT and Portugal academic institutions. Emphasizing  on the significance of Portuguese language, the ambassador stated, “ This language is a language in use in many Latin American and African countries such as Brazil , Angola , Mozambique and East Timor and about 260 million people are speaking in Portuguese” .

In reply the Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature responded, “Portuguese is one of the important international languages and provided that the Portugal government provides the related facilities such as professors and materials, the faculty will be pleased to offer this language to the interested applicants.

Note: Portuguese is one of the major languages of the world (the sixth most spoken language worldwide), spoken by about 200 million people on four continents. It belongs to a group of languages called "Romance" or "Neo-Latin" that evolved from Latin, the language of Latium in Ancient Italy, or more specifically, the city of Rome. (Courtesy: http://www.golisbon.com/practical-lisbon/language.html)
