Conference on World Civilizations “The Chinese and Iranian Civilizations: A Dialogue”
The conference was held on 13-15 October, 2023 in China hosted by Lanzhou University and Dunhuang Academy.
The Co-organizers included: Center of Iranian Studies, Institute of Middle Eastern Studies, Northwest University (China), Advanced Institute of Civilization Dialogue, Wuhan University, Research Center for the Belt and Road of Lanzhou University, Institute of Dunhuang Studies of Lanzhou University, School of Politics and International Relations, Lanzhou University, School of History and Culture, Lanzhou University.
The main theme of the conference was: Exchanges and Mutual Learning between Chinese Civilization and Persian Civilization.
More than 80 experts and scholars from China, the United States, Iran, Canada and Italy focused on classic works translation and interpretation, history, science and technology, belief, culture and dialogue among civilizations.
Ali Mohammad Sabeghi, the Secretary-General of the Iran-China Friendship Association and former Cultural Attaché of I.R. of Iran to China, in this event said that this is an important dialogue between Iranian culture, Persian civilization, Chinese culture, and Chinese civilization. The ancient Silk Road is a channel connecting civilizations in different parts of the world, and it is also an important platform for dialogue between China and Iran. It is a window for the exchange of opinions and cultures. Now the "One Belt, One Road" initiative has promoted interactions and exchanges between the people of both sides in the new era. Only through dialogue among civilizations can human society achieve greater progress and development.
Zhao Shengliang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Dunhuang Academy, said that the Mogao Grottoes have witnessed the prosperity of the Silk Road for thousands of years, and also witnessed the Chinese civilization’s open mind to continuously absorb the achievements of different regions and civilizations, and continue to create masterpieces of all eras. New culture has made great contributions to the common development of human civilization. In the future, the Dunhuang Academy will work with Lanzhou University to explore new ways to research, protect, utilize and display cultural resources along the “Belt and Road”, and continue to create new glories for Chinese culture.
During the conference, Chinese and the international scholars including Iranian academicians presented their academic papers on world civilizations. The participants also paid a visit to Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes. The Iranian participants were from University of Tehran, Allameh Tabataba’i University, Kharazmi University, Iranian Academy of Arts and IRIB.
Prof. Jafari Dehaghi , Prof. Amin Bazrafshan , Prof. Tahmineh Bazdar and Abdolmajid Esknadari, Director General , Office of International Relations from University of Tehran presented their scholarly papers in this conference.
