Syrian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research meets with the Acting President of University of Tehran

Prof. Seyyed Mohammad Moghimi, President of University of Tehran in a meeting with Prof.  Bassam Bashir Ibrahim, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Syria and the accompanying delegation, which was held in the Council Hall of the University of Tehran, on Tuesday morning, November 9, mentioned Syria as one of the main priorities in scientific diplomacy and international interaction.

Announcing the readiness to exchange the scientific, research and technological capacities of the University of Tehran with the universities of Syria, he said: "At the University of Tehran, we are ready to share our latest scientific achievements in the form of joint research projects, holding joint courses and exchanging professors and students in association with Syrian universities.

The Acting President of the University of Tehran stated that the trend and style of scientific diplomacy in the world has changed due to the conditions of the Corona era, adding: howeever it has created new capacities in our country's higher education system.

He mentioned that one of the achievements of e-learning is bridging the gap between educational environments and countries and noted: "Because travel is usually limited, but in terms of e-learning, we can well interact with the various issues that exist in higher education of the country." We can  share knowledge with our friends in Syria, so it is necessary to review the nature of our scientific exchanges and interactions with Syria.

The Acting President of the University of Tehran also referred to the approach of the University of Tehran as a "problem-solving university", the university's readiness to send professors and researchers to Syria to conduct studies and provide necessary advice in various fields of humanities, including social sciences, psychology and  "We consider the development of Syria as our own development and our effort is to play an effective role in the reconstruction of Syria," he said.

Bassam Bashir Ibrahim, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Syria, also invited the President of the University of Tehran to visit Syrian universities, emphasizing the exchange of professors and students, implementation of scientific projects and holding joint scientific and research conferences between universities of the two countries.

At the end of the meeting, a Letter of Intent on joint collaoboration was signed between the presidents of the two University of Tehran and Damascus University.

After signing the Letter of Intent, Prof. Moghimi, the Acting President   of the University of Tehran, stressed the need to design mechanisms to remove obstacles to the implementation of Memoranda of Understanding concluded between the University of Tehran and Syrian universities in the past and said: We  hope these interaction could lead to the establishment of joint courses and research and promotion of scientific interactions between Iranian and Syrian universities.
