President of IALS presents an online lecture

Sjef van Erp, President of the International Association of Legal Science(IALS) presented an online lecture on “ The Use of Non-Fungible Tokens to Create Unique Digital Assets" at the Institute of Comparative Law , Faculty of Law and Political Science.

Sjef van Erp is a retired professor of Civil and private law at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands and an expert in the comparative foundation of Ius Commune, European and Dutch property law. Judgment in the Court of Appeal in ‘s-Hertogenbosch is one of Erp's judicial experiences. He was previously President of the Netherlands Institute for Comparative Law, Editor-in-chief of the European Journal of Comparative Law and Governance (formerly: Electronic Journal of Comparative Law). Professor Erp has authored numerous books and articles, including Cases, Materials and Text on Property Law: Ius Commune Casebooks for the Common Law of Europe) Hart Publishing: 2012) and The Future of European Property Law (Sellier European law publishers: 2012). He is recently filled as the President of the International Association of Legal Science(IALS). Also, he is currently the Co-reporter for IT and Law working groups in European Law Institute(ELI).

The meeting was held on Monday, May 17, 2021. In this meeting, Professor Erp first examined the history of the evolution of the land registration system. Then, based on new technologies such as Blockchain, Artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, etc., he introduced the new virtual registration system and examined its relationship with the land registration system. He then examines the risks involved in using this new system and provides solutions for managing them.
