About the Institute

The Institute of Social Studies and Research of the University of Tehran, which has been the first research center of the kind in Iran, was founded in 1955. The main objectives of this center are focused on studying the social problems of the Iranian society. Different departments of the Institute are as follows:

• Urban Sociology
• Historical Sociology
• Sociology of Religion
• Cultural Sociology
• Social Psychology
• Demography
• Anthropology
• Rural Development
• Media Studies

In addition to the tasks mentioned above, the Institute also conducts various research projects, organizes relevant conferences and seminars, and publishes scientific journals. Currently, the Institute publishes six journals, one of which is ranked by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology as a scientific journal.
