The Second Secretary of the Embassy of Uruguay visits UT

On 8 August, 2018, Mr. Juan Jose Riva, the Second Secretary of Uruguay paid a visit to University of Tehran and met Prof. Ghahramani, Vice President for International Affairs.
The meeting was held in the presence of Prof. Moshirzadeh, Advisor to the Dean of Faculty of Law and Political Sciences on International Affairs, Prof. Haghroosta, Head of the Department of Latin American Studies, Faculty of World Studies, and Eskandari, Director General of the Office of International Relations, UT.
In this meeting, both sides exchanged ideas on exchange of students and professors, holding joint seminars, holding speech by faculty members of each university and other areas of interest.
In particular both sides in principle decided to plan the exchange of students program for a semester or more with 3 to 5 students in the initial stage in the areas of agriculture, law and political sciences, veterinary medicine, Latin American studies, physical education and sports sciences and also holding lectures by professors or high ranking officials in the area of economy and management. As a general rule, each university will provide the local accommodation and the travel costs are covered by the sending university.
UT and University of the Republic have signed a MoU which is still valid and can serve as a platform for academic cooperation. It is worth noting that University of the Republic is Uruguay's public university. It is the most important, oldest, and largest university of the country, with a student body of 108,886 students (2012). It was founded on 18 July 1849 in Montevideo, where most of its buildings and facilities are still located. Its current rector is Prof. Roberto Markarián.
